Knights Rail Services, in association with The Railway Magazine, are holding an open
weekend
at the former BR Eastleigh Works, to mark the centenary of the plant in the
Hampshire town.
‘Eastleigh 100’ is aiming to be one of the biggest railway events on the 2009 calendar,
and supported by both railway enthusiasts and the local community, together with
the valued support of many leading rail industry companies, the Eastleigh Centenary
Open Weekend’s primary aim is to raise money for a number of local and national charities.
Benefiting from the event will be:
Teenage Cancer Trust - a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and
young adults with cancer. Every day, around six young people, in the midst of their
already difficult journey to adulthood, suddenly find themselves faced with a possible
life-threatening illness and very often receiving treatment in inappropriate facilities
with inadequate support options. TCT’s top priority is building units in NHS hospitals
specifically for teenagers with cancer.
Naomi House - Naomi House children's hospice opened in June 1997 to provide respite
care, terminal care and bereavement support for children and families from across
the south of England, and provide support through good days, difficult days and last
days to children, young people and their families from the counties of Berkshire,
Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.
PSP Association - Progressive Supranuculear Palsy (PSP) is a little known but fatal
degenerative brain disease that is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s
disease. PSP involves the progressive death of neurons in the brain and affects balance,
mobility, vision, speech and the ability to swallow, leaving many sufferers eventually
unable to walk, feed themselves or communicate effectively with the world around
them.
